"PLACE D’ARMES": Quebec City’s fountains have turned the heads of many passersby. There is something soothing about letting the mind wander to the sound of the splashing water or tossing a coin to make a wish. The gothic-style fountain at Place d’Armes is crowned by Monument de la Foi. The fountain stands beneath the windows of the Chateau Frontenac Hotel, right in the middle of one of the liveliest places in Old Quebec.
QUEBEC CITY PARLIAMENT BUILDING: An imposing Second Empire chateau constructed between 1877 and 1886, just outside of the city walls. The plans were drawn up by engineer-architect Eugene-Etienne Tache, and inspired by the Louvre Museum in Paris. The Parliament Building houses the National Assembly, one of America’s oldest parliamentary institutions.
PLAINS OF ABRAHAM: The site of many clashes for supremacy between the French and British Empires, the Plains of Abraham Park is the scene of the 1759 Conquest, which changed the fate of North America. Apart from its historical past, the park is to Quebec what Central Park and Hyde Park are to New York and London: a city park of outstanding value, the lungs of the city.
WALKING TOUR of PLACE-ROYALE: This is one of the oldest settlements in North America. It is the birthplace of French Civilization on this continent. Samuel de Champlain began its construction in 1608, creating the first permanent settlement in New France. Today, Place-Royale has been restored to make the most of its 400 years of history. Boutiques and restaurants are featured alongside the old churches and museums. Enjoy an exquisite
